Famous Morro Bay volcanic plug -- the Moor's turban

Sep 30

Motored from San Simeon to Morro Bay.  Rafted outboard of another boat at the dock at Morro Bay Yacht Club.  We washed the boat and took on water.

Morro Bay was named by the Spanish or the fact that the volcanic plug in the harbor looks like a Moorish turban.

Brian treated Sue and me to a very nice evening at Windows on the Water, a very fine restaurant just down the street from our yacht club dock.

Is this the Sound of Music or Atlas Shrugged?

Another beautiful sunset

Oct 1

Another day in paradise.  What a beautiful place Morro Bay is.  We got up early and went down the pier to do some shopping.  We picked up some gifts for Andrew and Claire. Brian tried to buy a crab trap, but then was told the entire bay was protected. Craig was tempted to buy a fishing pole, but Sue didn't want the mess of cleaning fresh fish on board....it was very easy to just buy it from the local fishermen.

After lunch, we inflated the dingy and went for a ride over to the other side of the harbor where there are dunes between us and the ocean.

We ended a restful day with margaritas in the cockpit and dinner of pumpkin pasta, cranberries and pine nuts. It was very entertaining to watch the white pelicans hunt for food as a group, the brown pelicans dive into the bay like kamikazes, the sea lions hunt for fish together... jumping and diving into the water like acrobats.
