Racing sailboat - BustinLoose

Jeff (the owner) & Jeff (my inviter)

Heading home after the race - "we won, of course"

Sep 23

At dock, Monterey Harbor.  Craig went to Costco for supplies for the trip to San Simeon as well as a short trip to West Marine for a new drain plug for the dingy.

Craig crewed in a race off Monterey Harbor in BustinLoose, a Sydney 39.  Winds were light, but we were doing better than 9 knots with full spinnaker flying -- really beautiful and quite exciting when you hike-out to help the boat catch a gust.  If you really want to know what Craig did during the race, "I just did whatever Jeff*2 told me to do"; there were 3 or 4 times as many control lines on this boat as there are on Seasilk.  Craig then joined the owner and the crew for dinner and drinks at the Monterey Yacht Club, just a short walk from where Seasilk is docked.

The "ocean view" from Sue room at Asilomar -- fog all day every day!

Sep 24

A paperwork day for Craig on the boat.  Sue joined him in the afternoon during their break and helped complete plans and items, like folding and securing the dingy, for the next leg of our trip south.

View from Brian's boat
Sep 25 Sue finished at Asilomar at noon and we drove back to Genentech with Connie, who had been so kind as to bring the car down before their conference.

Sue finished the afternoon with a visit to her favorite hairdresser and Craig browsed the local marine surplus store.  Both were successful and Craig is now the proud owner of a 10,000 BTU air-conditioning unit for the boat...to be installed in San Diego.

Had drinks at the Oyster Point Yacht Club  (OPYC) and dinner at our favorite Thai restaurant on Grand in SSF.  We are staying tonight and tomorrow on Brian Rogers' Cal 46 in Oyster Cove.

Brian & Jennifer

Dave & Dee
Sat Sep 26 The day of the big party...Dave and Dee Bennett's 50th Wedding Anniversary.  More on this later.

Sue was at work most of the day on a con-call with the Healthcare Business Women's Association which she Chairs.  Craig and Brian and Jennifer took Brian's boat and went to Alameda to the Hanger One Vodka Distillery to try Absinth, a liquor that was banned in the US for over 70 years and was just recently approved for production in two locations in the US.  Craig's opinion: "tastes like licorice", but it was very cool the way it turns cloudy when chilled.   We did buy a bottle of their raspberry liquor, should be good over ice cream.

Dave and Dee are the heart and soul of OPYC.  They are always there to greet new comers.  [They were the first people at the club we knew and Dave sponsored our membership.]  It was a great party that the Bennetts threw.  The genial group from their large extended families mixed perfectly with their yacht club family.  We danced into the night.

Coit Tower
Sep 27 Sue and Craig became tourists for the day in San Francisco.  First, climbing Coit Tower with its 360 degree views of the bay area on what was a gorgeous day, then the Cable Car Museum and tickets to Beach Blanket Babylon...a whimsical off-Broadway style play that has run in SF for over 35 years and is constantly updated with current topical information.  This play is known for its very very large hats!

We ended the evening with dinner in the north beach area at Vicoletto's.  Finally, any tourist-day in San Francisco would not have been complete without a hot fudge sundae at Ghirardelli's.  We slept the night at the Fisherman's Wharf Holiday Inn, courtesy of our grand prize win at Opening Day back in April
