What a great day! I thought it would be hard to beat yesterday, but
today the weather is perfect and we got to see another grey whale very close
as he crossed the bow of our boat no more than 25 feet away. We really
think he heard the boats engine and came over to investigate as he (she?)
circled the boat and then dove under at about 100 feet and came up on the
other side. How do I know? We were over the Scripps canyon which
is too deep for our fathometer to measure and we had a depth reading of 120
feet after the whale dived under us. We also got to see the Navy/Marines doing maneuvers outside of Camp Pendleton. This time it was landing-craft, helicopters and F-22 Strike Fighters. We also had a glorious view of La Jolla, Scripps pier and Mount Soledad. It was so clear that we could even make out the buildings near the Children's Pool. We ended the day at anchor in Mission Bay (just north of San Diego) and Sue got to do something she has been waiting for over two years to do from Seasilk...jump into the water and swim and then take a shower on the stern of the boat. I went in too and it was so refreshing. We ended the day with steak grilled on the fantail and a beautiful sunset. |
