The Honeymooners

Oct 15

Today was a short day.  We only moved 23 nm and we did it all under power of the engine since there was virtually no wind.  We did have to go out to sea beyond the 3-mile limit to get around the restricted area adjacent to the Marines at Camp Pendleton.  Good thing too, because we were still very close to their exercise area and could hear the booms of the live-fire exercises.  It was exciting as we got to see two Navy hovercraft.  In fact, they made circles around our boat at about 1/2 mile radius.  We suspect that we were being used as an "enemy" invading craft.

Picked up fuel in Oceanside before going to our assigned berth in front of the Jolly Roger Restaurant.  Actually, we had to "encourage" a very large bull sea lion to move off the dock before we could secure our stern line.

Sue had another of her HBA colleagues, Ruth, join us for a chat...great fun.  Beth Bynum, a neighbor from Oceanside came by and got a tour of the boat.

The day was made even more special when Katie Wiser and her husband Clayton Baxter joined us for wine and cheese on the boat and sushi after in Carlsbad.  Katie and Clayton are on their honeymoon and are staying at our house in Coronado.  We really appreciated them coming up to see us and our boat and were especially glad since we had missed the wedding because of our trip and really wanted to get to meet Clayton...more fun
