Leaving Oyster Point (our home for 2 1/2 years

Golden Gate Bridge in the fog

Red Tide at the Colorado Reef sea buoy

Arriving Half Moon Bay
|
Sep 12 |
Departed
Oyster
Point
Marina
in a lightening, thunder and rain storm, unusual for
San Francisco
. The visibility was poor, but manageable. As we were leaving, the Coast
Guard radio operator was announcing several races in the area, some 1000
swimmers from
Alcatraz
and sailboat races. Fortunately we missed all the swimmers, and the Rolex
Yachts were just getting in position to start their race.
The
Golden Gate
Bridge
was barely visible as we left, but the fog horns at either end of the span
were loud and clear. The storm had made some very long and large swells,
but there was little wind, so it was not choppy. We motor-sailed most of
the way, never seeing land until it was time to turn into Half Moon Bay.
At the “Colorado
reef sea buoy” we passed through a distinctive red tide. Unfortunately
it was not at night, so we don’t know if it was fluorescent.
After
arriving we refueled, had tea on the “Baroness” with fellow Oyster
Point Yacht club members Natalie and Mark Sturm and then dined with them
at the Moss Beach Distillery.
